Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president J.P. Agarwal on Friday exhorted the newly-elected presidents of the Block Congress Committees to work towards strengthening the party at the grassroots level ahead of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections scheduled for next year.

Addressing the new BCC presidents at the DPCC headquarters at Rajiv Bhawan here, Mr. Agarwal said the block presidents play a very important role in the party’s functioning as they ensure its growth at the grassroots level.

Mr. Agarwal said with the MCD polls due next year, the BCC presidents should work towards gaining the trust and confidence of the people through selfless service. “You should also popularise the programmes and policies of the party among the people,” he said.

The senior Congress leader declared that from February, the party would organise conventions in every Block Congress Committee in Delhi. Besides, he said, a ‘padyatra’ or foot march will be taken out in every municipal ward to mobilise the party workers and supporters.

Mr. Agarwal said he too would undertake foot marches and organise public meetings in every block to increase the interaction with the public.
