New Delhi, Dec 19: Describing the Plenary of the Congress as ‘historic’, Delhi Congress Chief Jai Prakash Aggarwal today said the pleanary sessions of the party had always set a new direction for the politics of the country.

”The Congress plenaries in the past have always determined the direction of politics in the country. In this sense, this Session is also historic,” Mr Aggarwal said in address to welcome delegates at the 83rd Plenary of the party, being held at Burari here.

Complementing Ms Sonia Gandhi on becoming the Congress President for a record fourth term, the DPCC president said, ”Ms Gandhi has always been an epitome of sacrifice for the partymen and the people of the country. She has always worked for the alleviation of condition of the poor and the underprivileged. She has also worked tirelessly for the unity and integrity of the country.”

Referring to late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Mr Agarwal said,” they have served the Nation tirelessly and even laid down their lives for the country.”

On Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said, ”the Prime Minister has helped to enhance the credibility of the country abroad.”

Talking about Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, the DPCC chief said he had, through his noble actions, served as an inspiration for the youth of the country.

”The youth of the country look up to Rahul as a source of inspiration and see in him the future of the country,” he said.
