The president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) and North East Delhi MP Jai Prakash Agarwal today demanded the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to not close the Indira Gandhi vegetable market in Gokulpuri without allotting an alternate site.
Agarwal said around 150 families were depended on the market for their livelihoods, but the civic body was trying to demolish it without providing any alternate site to traders.
The corporation has decided to remove the Gokulpuri vegetable market established in 1976.
The market caters to around 15 colonies situated around the area and that if it closed down, the residents of theses areas will have to go to far off places to buy vegetables, said the Congress leader.
