Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Jai Prakash Agarwal, MP, on Saturday took out a padayatra from the Municipal ward at Kirari in the North West Delhi Parliamentary constituency against the “failure” of the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi . The eight-km long padayatra started from Prem Nagar and passed through Shani Bazar Road, Chalis Foota Road, and towards Sathar Foota Road. A large number of women from the unauthorised colonies also joined the padayatra in which the Congress workers marched in front by holding the Congress flags.
Addressing the protesters, Mr. Agarwal said there were many unauthorised colonies in the area in which a large number of poor people live. But, he charged, that the BJP-ruled MCD had not carried out any development works in these areas. “To top it,” he said, “the MCD was now trying to extort house tax from the unauthorised colonies and a number of residents have been sent the notices.”
Mr. Agarwal said a DPCC delegation led by him had met Lieutenant Governor to discuss the issue and got the house tax notices withdrawn. As a result of this the move to charge house tax from unauthorised colonies was stalled, he claimed.
Averring that Congress was a party of the common people and would always come to their aid and protect their interest, Mr. Agarwal assured that all-round development of the unauthorised colonies would be taken up to improve people’s lives.
