Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Jai Prakash Agarwal today said the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation of Delhi had put additional burden on the people by hiking toll tax. He said the hike in the toll tax will result in the rise of prices of essential items like vegetables, fruits, grains, rice, dals, milk among other things as these were brought to Delhi in commercial vehicles. The Congress MP added that the MCD was a civil body which should function on a no-profit, no-loss basis and should not make profit like a business house. Congress activists staged demonstration against toll tax increase across the capital.

“It is the last year of the BJP rule in the MCD, and the party is aware that it will be thrown out of power in the next MCD elections. That is the reason the BJP was putting additional burden on the people by hiking the toll tax, which will result in massive price rise,” Mr Agarwal alleged. He said to protest against the MCD decision, the Pradesh Congress today organised ‘dharnas’ at 140 places.

Mr Agarwal stated that the Congress was “warning” the BJP through the today’s ‘dharnas’ that the MCD should forthwith roll back the toll tax hike or else the Congress workers will gherao the Town Hall and the BJP leaders, and will force them to withdraw the toll tax.
