The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday launched its membership drive which would also create the voter base of the party for its organisational elections in 2015.
The membership drive was launched from the DPCC headquarters by unit president J. P. Agarwal by making All India Congress Committee general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi a “member” in the presence of a large number of workers. In another symbolic gesture, Mr. Agarwal was made a Congress member by former DPCC president Prem Singh.
A large number of senior Delhi Congress leaders were also made members on the occasion.
Mr. Agarwal then exhorted the party workers to go from house to house to enlist new members. He also asked all district and block Congress committee presidents to make membership drives in their areas by holding special functions.
The DPCC president said the membership forms were available at the party office and anybody wanting to become a member can get a copy of it and fill it. He said a counter has also been opened at the DPCC office where citizens can come and become Congress members. He said the party’s organisational elections in 2015 will be held on the basis of the new membership drive.
Mr. Dwivedi said the Congress has launched its membership drive across India from today. He said the existing members would also be required to renew their membership.
