A day-long workers convention of Delhi Congress saw all the leaders going hammer and tongs against the BJP ahead of the MCD polls.

The Congress leaders on Sunday charged the saffron party for ‘using the forum of social activist Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev to propagate its own anti-Congress agenda.’

Addressing the party workers, AICC general secretary and in-charge of Delhi affairs Choudhury Birender Singh alleged that the BJP is taking help of Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare to discredit the Congress. Attacking Ramdev, the Congress leader said five years back, Ramdev was not a crorepati, but now he had declared a wealth of Rs 1,400 crore. “The people of this country would like to know how Ramdev could accumulate so much wealth,” he said.

The workers’ convention was organised at Dussehra Ground. This was the first worker convention of Delhi Congress, to prepare itself for the MCD polls in April. Singh said, during the last Assembly elections in five States, 700 MLAs were elected out of which the BJP got only five. Delhi Congress president Jai Prakash Agarwal said padayatras were being regularly organised by the party and party workers are having regular interaction with the public, while BJP leaders are taking out “Jan Sangharsh Yatra”.

Criticising the BJP, the Congress leaders alleged that it remembers Ram Mandir only when the elections are round the corner in the country. “It very conveniently pushes burning issues under the carpet when it does not suit the party’s interest. In UP elections, the saffron party has once again raised the issue of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya to mobilise and polarise voters,” said a Congress leader.
