NEW DELHI,—The historic and biggest Ramlila of Delhi got off to an auspicious start on Thursday. The procession of the Ramlila (Shobha Yatra) started from the Cycle Market in Chandni Chowk before winding its way through to the Ramlila ground (Ajmeri Gate). The procession was headed by patron of the Ramlila Committee Mr Jai Prakash Agarwal, MP who is also the president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. Others who accompanied the Ramlila procession were Ramilila Committee office-bearers Rajesh Khanna, Amit Agarwal, Pradeep Gupta and Dr. R.B. Singh.

The Ramlila procession (Shobha Yatra) started from Cycle Market (Esplanade Road), and passed through Dariba Kalan, Chandni Chowk, Nai Sarak, Barshabula, Chowri Bazar, Haus Qazi and Ajmeri Gate before reaching   the Ramlila Ground at 7 p.m. There is no parallel to the Ramlila Shobha Yatra anywhere else in the country. large number of people welcomed the Ramlila procession on the route with devotion and the procession had many colourful floats, depicting the various episodes of Ramayan. The procession was given lustre by the famous bands of Delhi.

After the procession reached the Ramlila ground, Ganesh Puja was held before the Ramlila performance began. The Ganesh Puja was started by chief patron Mr Jai Prakash Agarwal. Thousands of men, women, and children attended the Ganesh Puja, and then witnessed the first day’s Ramlila performance.
