Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday exhorted the newly-nominated Aldermen of the party to go around Delhi and make people aware of the policies and programmes of the Congress, which has always looked after the interest of the poor people.
The 10 newly-nominated Aldermen of the Congress in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had called on Ms. Gandhi at her residence, in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Delhi Congress president J.P. Agarwal.
During the interaction, the Aldermen thanked Ms. Gandhi for their nomination. Mr. Agarwal, who felicitated Ms. Gandhi, introduced the aldermen to her. Describing them all as “grass-root Congress workers who had come up the ranks,” he said a new precedent had been set by giving such loyal workers a major responsibility.
The Aldermen who met Ms. Gandhi during the day included Harikishan Jindal, S.K. Puri, Sudesh Sangwan, Abdul Qayum, Lal Chand Chandelia, Komalam Nair, Sanjay Gehlot, Parvez Mia, S.S.Duggal and Yogesh Kumar Choudhary.
Some prominent Delhi Congress leaders including Leader of Opposition in the MCD Jai Kishan Sharma, Jitender Kumar Kochar, Kamal Kant Sharma and Suresh Malik were part of the delegation.
