Amidst the skirmishes between the Government and discoms, Delhi Congress president Jai Prakash Agarwal has sent a missive to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit to ensure there are no power cuts during the Diwali festival. He also urged the Government to take relevant steps to discipline the power distribution companies in the interest of the people of Delhi.
In a letter to Dikshit, Agarwal who is sitting MP from North-east Delhi, asked the Government to ensure that there is no power cut or disturbance in power supply so that people could celebrate this festival smoothly.
“Madam, many people have come to me and complained against the inflated electricity bills they have been receiving from the power distribution companies. I appreciate the strong steps you have taken against the CEO of the BSES who has let down the hopes of the people with frequent power cuts and hugely inflated power bills,” the letter said.
The North-east Delhi MP further stated that inflated power bills received by the consumers have had a negative impact on the promise of the party as the Congress party’s stated position has been that it would protect the interests of the people but the anti people steps of the discoms have forced the consumers to agitate. “The credibility the Congress party and the Government is at stake as the party had promised the power consumers that it’s top most priority was to safeguard the interest of the people. But inflated bills and frequent power cuts have given a bad name to the Government and party,” the letter said.
