Poltical Life :-

As a Freedom Fighter Lala Ram Charan Agarwal started his association with Delhi Congress at early age of 19 & same year he became treasurer DPCC. he was one of the 11 persons selected by Mahatma Gandhi for individual Satyagrah from Delhi along with Sh. Asaf Ali, Sh. Desh Bandhu Gupta, Sh. Radha Raman, Sh. Onkar Nath & others. He went to jail along with Smt. Aruna Asaf Ali in 1939 first time. He was again arrested in 1942 & 1945.

As elected representative Lala Ram Charan Agarwal in 1951 contested his very first election for Municipal Committee from ward Maliwara & won. again in 1954 he got elected for municipal committee & in 1958 he contested for municipal corporation of Delhi & won he became the first Deputy Mayor of Delhi along with Smt Aruna Asaf ali as mayor. in election of 1962 he stood as independent candidate as congress did not put up any candidate on the intervention of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru than Prime Minister of India & congress president Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru also issued an appeal in favor of Ram Charan Agarwal & asked him to circulate this through wall posters & pamphlets things did not end here he had five public meetings in Delhi & he spoke in every public meeting that Lala Ram Charan Agarwal is a sincere, hard working, honest man & he should win not surprisingly he won the election with a big margin
He was nominated to newly formed metropolitan council of Delhi in 1967. He was the member of AICC for number of years. he was member TAC & Railway committee for many years. He was also elected to Delhi Hindustani Mercantile Association which was the powerful cloth merchant association of that period. He was a true Gandhian & always wore khadi throughout his life. He was connected with many social & cultural organisations of Delhi.
He arranged a big public meeting at Chandni Chowk Ghanta Ghar in which Mrs. Indira Gandhi came & addressed the meeting. when he was admitted to G.B.Pant hospital she came to see him. She came to Chandni Chowk at Naughara on hearing the sad dismissal of Lala Ram Charan Aagarwal. She came to the condolence meeting of Lala Ram Charan Agarwal at Mavlankar hall along with Kamlapati Tripathi, Mr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, Mr. Khurshid Alam Khan, Aruna Asaf Ali, Dr. Yudhvir Singh, Mr. H.K.L. Bhagat, Mr. Radha Raman & others.

Naming Ceremony

Crossing at I.T.O. New Delhi has been named as “Ramcharn Agarwal Chowk” on 4th Febuary, 2004. This naming cerememony was performed by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Shiela Dikshit.

This naming ceremony is an initiative to give heartiest tributes to this great freedom fighter of India. The contribution provided by him towards this society and nation will always be remembered as Golden moments in out hearts and minds.
